This version makes …
This version makes the song sound so much sadder than it really ever was meant to be. It was always supposed to be an upbeat song about a kid who dreamed of being like his father. Then he becomes like his father. Not a sad story about how the kid wasn’t talked to enough as a kid, and then when he grew up, made his father feel like crap……The original will never die, this one is good, but the original will never die.

Oh yes. It’s an awesome song, but very sad. Unfortunately, this is what happens all too often. Parents get so busy trying to make a good life for themselves and their kids that they forget what kids really need is their parents’ love and attention. Later on the kids grow up and become the same way. This song really has a powerful message about that. Thaks for sharing it! It never gets old!

First of all, this …
First of all, this song - along with others like CCR’s “Some Day Never Comes” and Faster Pussycat’s “House of Pain” - works because it’s brutally honest and inciteful. This is relatively rare for the 80’s and 90’s, when music was either all glitz and glamor, or too artsy-fartsy for its own good. Which makes songs like these (originally by Harry Chapin) all too much a rarity. Billiant cover. Brillian video. Cheers!
